The Heroes Foundation
Amongst its many courses and interventions, humanutopia runs an in-school volunteer programme called the Heroes Journey, which begins in year 9 and runs until students leave school. The Journey is a series of challenges designed to help the volunteer Heroes improve their own life chances by developing real life skills in real life situations whilst at the same time they must become positive role models to younger people in their schools and communities.
The Heroes Foundation was set up by humanutopia to help young people enrich their experience whilst they are still at school and also to extend and sustain their own Heroes Journey once they have left school.
The Heroes Foundation has several aims:
1. To help young people set up their own voluntary social enterprises.
2. To work with other volunteer programmes to provide opportunities for young people to volunteer their services in developing countries.
3. To Identify, train, and support young people to become apprentices and part of the Heroes Team, delivering and sustaining the Heroes Journey within their own schools and communities.
4. To help build and develop humanutopia schools in developing countries.
These aims will be achieved in part by Heroes accessing two further strands of the Heroes Journey.
Ur Vol is a platform on which Heroes can move up to in order to further their own Heroes Journey. Once Heroes have either left school or joined the sixth form, Heroes will be able to access funding from the Heroes Foundation to set up their own social enterprise to help younger students in their own communities. The Heroes will need to adhere to stringent requirements but will be given a successful template to help set up their own voluntary enterprise.
Ur Biz Once each Hero has successfully managed to run their voluntary enterprise for one year, they will be eligible for further funding from the Heroes Foundation, which will allow them to set up their own businesses.
